Interior Painting Estimates in Calgary and Airdrie: What Homeowners Are Actually Paying in 2026
Interior painting is one of the most-requested home improvement services in Calgary and Airdrie — and one of the most difficult to price-shop without understanding what a proper estimate actually includes. YYC Today sat down with a local painting contractor to break down what drives cost, what a real estimate covers, and what the ballpark numbers look like heading into summer 2026.
When a Calgary or Airdrie homeowner starts shopping for interior painting, they typically encounter a wide range of quotes for what seems like the same job. A room that gets one estimate of $800 might get another of $2,200 from a different painter. Understanding why that gap exists — and what each quote actually includes — is the difference between choosing confidently and gambling on a result.
YYC Today spoke with Norbert Hamar, owner of Admirari Solutions, a Calgary-based renovation company that handles interior and exterior painting alongside cabinet work and flooring installation, to walk through how painting estimates actually work in the Calgary and Airdrie market.
What a Real Interior Painting Estimate Includes
“The first thing I ask homeowners to look for in any painting estimate is whether prep is itemized separately or just bundled in as ‘included,'” Hamar said. “If someone gives you a price and just says prep is included without describing what that means, you don’t know what you’re buying.”
A complete interior painting estimate for a Calgary or Airdrie home should specify:
- Surface preparation — filling nail holes, sanding raised grain and patching compound, cleaning walls, and addressing any areas where previous paint is peeling or bubbling
- Primer application — whether a full prime coat is included or only spot-priming bare patches (full priming produces a more even sheen and better coverage on repainted surfaces)
- Number of finish coats — two coats of a quality interior latex is the standard; one coat with touch-up is a cost-cutting approach that shows quickly on walls with sheen
- Protection — floor covering, furniture moving (or whether the homeowner needs to clear rooms), and masking of trim, hardware, and adjacent surfaces
- Trim and ceiling scope — whether walls only, or walls plus ceiling plus baseboard and door casing
- Product specification — the paint line and sheen being used; mid-grade and premium products perform very differently under Calgary’s light
- Cleanup and touch-up walkthrough — what happens at completion and who identifies deficiencies
Interior Painting Cost Ranges in Calgary and Airdrie (2026)
These ranges are approximate and based on current Calgary and Airdrie market conditions for professionally done interior painting. They assume proper prep, two coats of quality paint, and full protection of floors and trim.
Room-by-Room Painting Estimate Ranges — Calgary & Airdrie, 2026
Single bedroom (walls only, standard 8ft ceiling): $350 – $650
Master bedroom (walls only): $450 – $800
Living room or great room (walls only): $500 – $1,000
Kitchen (walls, typically partial due to cabinets and backsplash): $400 – $750
Full main floor (open concept, walls + ceiling): $1,400 – $2,800
Full interior repaint — 3-bed detached home (walls, ceilings, trim): $4,500 – $9,000
Full interior repaint — larger home 4+ bed: $7,000 – $14,000+
These are reference ranges. Actual quotes depend on ceiling height, surface condition, number of colours, trim complexity, and whether furniture clearing is required.
Why Interior Painting Estimates in Calgary Vary So Widely
“The main reason quotes vary is prep scope,” Hamar said. “A painter who skips the filling, sanding, and spot-priming can price 30 to 40 percent lower than one who does it properly. The wall looks the same for about six months. Then the nail pops and the grain show up, and the homeowner thinks paint doesn’t last.”
Other factors that create variation in interior painting estimates across Calgary:
- Crew size vs. owner-operated — larger painting companies send crews and price for volume. Owner-operators like Admirari Solutions price for quality on a project-by-project basis. Neither is automatically better, but the accountability model differs significantly.
- Paint product tier — a premium Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore product costs $70–$90/gallon vs. $35–$50 for entry-level latex. The difference shows in coverage, washability, and sheen consistency.
- Access and ceiling height — vaulted ceilings, stairwell walls, and two-storey great rooms add time and equipment requirements that not every estimator accounts for upfront.
- Number of colours — each colour change between rooms or between walls and trim adds masking time. A full home in one neutral colour paints faster than a room-by-room custom scheme.
House Painting in Airdrie: What’s Different
Airdrie’s housing stock skews newer than Calgary’s inner-city neighbourhoods — meaning fewer surface prep issues related to old paint layers, lead paint concerns, or textured walls from the 1980s. However, Airdrie homes often have more consistent open-concept layouts with higher ceilings than equivalent Calgary builds from the same era, which adds linear footage to any interior painting project.
“Airdrie jobs tend to be cleaner in terms of surface condition, but the ceilings and the open concept layouts mean there’s more square footage than the floor plan suggests,” Hamar said.
Admirari Solutions handles house painting in Airdrie with the same process and product standards as Calgary projects. Free on-site estimates are available for Airdrie homeowners, with Hamar conducting every assessment personally.
Questions to Ask When Getting Interior Painting Estimates in Calgary or Airdrie
- What does your prep process include, and how long does prep take relative to painting?
- What paint line and sheen are you proposing for the walls and trim?
- Are two coats of finish included, or one coat with touch-up?
- Does your estimate include ceiling painting, or walls only?
- Who will be on site — you, or a crew?
- What is your process at the end of the job for identifying and addressing touch-ups?
“A painter who can answer all of those questions specifically — not vaguely — is usually one who knows what they’re doing,” Hamar said. “The painters who get uncomfortable with detailed questions about process are often the ones cutting corners on it.”
